Ruien Energy Storage

25 MW / 100 MWh
Reliable reserve power & improved grid reliability

Wärtsilä's sophisticated energy storage project in Kluisbergen, Belgium

Providing flexibility for the Belgian grid

Maintaining energy frequency and reliability

The Ruien Energy Storage project is Wärtsilä’s first in Belgium and one of the largest systems in the country to-date. The 25 MW / 100 MWh energy storage system helps the customer to regulate fluctuations and supply peak power with stored renewable energy in the grid. With improved reliability, the system also improves revenues.

The facility utilises Wärtsilä’s GridSolv Quantum energy storage system and Wärtsilä’s sophisticated energy management software, the GEMS Digital Energy Platform.

Ruien Energy Storage is primarily designed and owned by Nippon Koei Energy Europe B.V. and Aquila Clean Energy, who developed the joint venture project.
